Global Sumud Flotilla Denounces Israeli Law Authorising Execution of Palestinian Prisoners

INTERNATIONAL – The Global Sumud Flotilla issues this urgent condemnation of the israeli Knesset’s passage of legislation authorising the execution of Palestinian prisoners by hanging. This is not merely an adjustment in sentencing, it marks a significant escalation in the institutionalisation of state violence. 

A New Threshold of State Violence 

This law represents a historic and bloodstained escalation in the decades-long machinery of occupation that’s been built on the systemic dehumanisation of Palestinians and a culture of legalised impunity. It legalises the execution of an occupied people, an escalation from mass incarceration toward the use of capital punishment within a military court system that has long been criticised for its near-total conviction rate. It extends the existing violence of the Gaza blockade and West Bank dispossession into a final, irreversible architecture of death. 

An Unyielding Moral Mandate 

The world cannot remain a silent spectator while a regime of domination evolves from the siege of a people to their systematic execution. 

Our rejection of the death penalty is absolute and grounded in the uncompromising principle that no life is worth more than another. We reject the death penalty in its entirety as an affront to human dignity, and we specifically denounce its weaponisation by an occupying power as a tool of political terror designed to break the spirit of a resisting people. 

While the Global Sumud Flotilla has always been a mission of necessity, this move toward legalised execution heightens the moral stakes of our journey. We do not just sail in solidarity; we sail as a defiant barrier against an occupation that has now moved from confinement to the finality of the rope. 

A Defiant Response to State Terror 

As global governments fail their moral and legal obligations to uphold international law, the responsibility falls to the global community of conscience. Our answer to the threat of execution is Sumud – an unbreakable, collective, and nonviolent steadfastness. We will not be intimidated, and we will not look away. The Global Sumud Flotilla remains more committed than ever to breaking the illegal siege of Gaza, sailing to challenge every wall, every blockade, and every new instrument of violence the israeli state constructs. Justice cannot be executed, and the yearning for freedom will not be silenced.
