The UK delegation of the Global Sumud Flotilla has an additional responsibility to our brothers and sisters around the world. We must raise awareness of the UK's responsibility in the atrocities in Palestine. Not only is our government complicit in 2026, we created this mess in the first place. 

An extremely simplified timeline:

1915 Britain approached Arab leaders, proposing Arab independence if they helped fight against the Ottoman Empire 

1917 Britain promised a Jewish homeland in Palestine 

1922 Britain sent the Black & Tans (enforcing British rule in Ireland) to Palestine 

1918 - 1947 the Jewish population in Palestine grew tenfold, from 60,000 to more than 600,000 

1948 Britain handed Palestine to the UN after not being able to maintain the mess they had created
