Global Sumud Land Convoy Calls on East Libyan Authorities to Honor Coordination Commitments & Grant the Humanitarian Mission Safe Passage
May 20, 2026
Sirte, Libya – The Global Sumud Land Convoy (GSLC) is calling on security authorities in Libya and the Libyan Red Crescent to urgently resume coordination and translate stated assurances into concrete action, following an unexplained halt in communications at the Sirte crossing.
At yesterday's meeting, GSLC representatives met with the Libyan security authorities and the Libyan Red Crescent. The convoy delivered an official letter requesting support for its passage through Libyan territory, and both parties agreed to hold a follow-up meeting to finalize handover procedures and crossing arrangements.
Despite that agreement, no follow-up meeting has taken place. Since this morning, the convoy's organizers have sent repeated communications, including a confirmed proposed date for the agreed meeting, and have received no response.
The GSLC organizers acknowledge the positive statements previously issued by the Libyan authorities and the Libyan Red Crescent. That goodwill now needs to be demonstrated. Words of support and a concrete agreement to meet cannot be left unmatched by action.
The GSLC is a civilian humanitarian mission. It includes participants from more than 20 countries, among them medical professionals, engineers, educators, and legal observers. It has completed every previous stage of its journey in cooperation with host authorities and without incident.
Palestinians in Gaza cannot wait. We call on the Libyan authorities and Red Crescent to honor their commitments, respond to outstanding communications, and take immediate steps to allow this convoy to proceed. Every day of delay is a day the siege holds.
