The Global Sumud Land Convoy Advances Overland Toward Rafah — A United Growing International Mobilisation to Break the Siege In Gaza and Stand With Palestine [multilingual pdf]
16 May 2026 Zliten, Libya –
As our fleet sails toward Gaza, the Global Sumud Land Convoy is making its way overland toward Rafah; two people-led mobilisations united by a shared commitment to break the siege, deliver solidarity, and stand alongside the Palestinian people.
The Global Sumud Land Convoy, an international humanitarian mission carrying life-saving aid to Gaza, set out from Libya on 15 May, Nakba Day , as a deliberate act of solidarity and remembrance.
The convoy comprises more than 30 vehicles, including ambulances and trucks loaded with medical supplies, and carries over 200 participants from more than 25 countries across six continents.
This moment is part of a wider global responsibility. Civil society cannot remain silent while a people continue to endure siege and displacement by the israel regime. The struggle for Palestine is a struggle for justice everywhere.
Today, a press conference will be held at 2:00 PM local time at Al Khansaa Girls School in Zalitan , featuring:
- Chief Nkosi Zwelivelile "Mandla" Mandela , former flotilla participant and special guest: will address participants on international solidarity, anti-colonial struggle, and the responsibility of global civil society to act, , emphasising that the Palestinian struggle is part of a wider global movement for justice and dignity.
- Ahmed Ghaniya , Maghreb Sumud and GSF Steering Committee member: will outline the Maghreb Sumud initiative's objectives and call for sustained regional mobilization in coordination with wider global efforts.
Geraldine Ramirez , Global Sumud Tunisia member and former flotilla participant: will speak to the role of grassroots actors in civilian solidarity missions and the strengthening of international people-led movements.
From the sea to the land, this mobilisation carries one united message: Gaza is not alone.
